As communal violence drives the tension in Delhi and clashes escalate over controversial citizenship law, the body of an Intelligence Bureau officer, Ankit Sharma, was recovered from a drain on Wednesday. The officer is reported to be killed by a stone-pelting mob in Delhi’s Chandbagh area last night, claims the family.
Intelligence Bureau officer killed in a mob attack
According to the sources, the 26 years old Intelligence Bureau officer was returning home on Tuesday evening when he was supposedly attacked by an angry crowd at the Chand Bagh bridge. He was beaten to death and his body was thrown into a drain.
The officer was identified as Ankit Sharma. Since the time he did not return home, his family lodged a complaint about him going missing.
Body recovered on Wednesday
On Wednesday, the body was recovered from a drain. Ankit’s father, Ravinder Sharma, who also works with the Intelligence Bureau, has blamed Aam Aadmi Party supporters of attacking Ankit and killing him.
Further investigation by the police revealed that Ankit was shot after he was beaten. After the recovery of the body, it has been sent for the post-mortem.
Chand Bagh is one of the many areas in Delhi that have been the place of extreme violence after clashes between groups supporting and opposed to the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act. At least 26 people, including a police constable, have been killed and more than 180 others have been injured in the violence that has been erupting since Monday.
