Congress on Monday advised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to rename itself as “Nathuram Godse Party”. This incident occurred when BJP leader Anantkumar Hegde called Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom struggle as “drama”. The grand old party also said that Mahatma Gandhi does not need a certificate from “chamchas and spies of the Britishers”.
Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom struggle movement
It all started when the BJP leader Ananth Kumar Hegde termed Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom struggle as a “drama”. The Lok Sabha MP also questioned as to how “such people” emerged to be called ‘Mahatma’ in the country.
“None of these so-called leaders were hit by the police even once. Their independence campaign was one long drama. It was all presented by these leaders with the permission of the British. It was not a true struggle. It was a settlement freedom fight,” Hegde said while addressing a public event in Bengaluru on Saturday.
He gradually termed Mahatma Gandhi’s hunger strikes and satyagraha a “drama”.
“People holding Congress keep telling that India got independence because of the satyagraha movement. This is not right. The British did not flee the country because of satyagraha.”
“Britishers gave independence out of difficulty. My blood boils when I go through history. Such people become Mahatma in our country,” Hegde added.
Doesn’t need a certificate
Hitting back at the BJP leader, Congress leader Jaiveer Shergill on Monday said, “Mahatma Gandhi doesn’t need a certificate of nationalism or his freedom struggle. Hegde belongs to the organization that works for the Britishers.”
The Congress leader further suggests that it is a great time the BJP is renamed after Godse. He said, “The way Nathuram Godse ‘Bhakts’ are increasing in the BJP, it’s high time now BJP should rename as ‘Nathuram Godse’ party.”
PM did not take action against Pragya Thakur who consistently insults Mahatma Gandhi & now another BJP joins “hate Bapu” chorus.
