Mumbaikar’s Love for Bengaluru

Mumbaikar's

I am here to let you know how much I love Bengaluru and why as basically I am from Mumbai and just 5 months back, moved to Bangalore for pursuing MBA. Before coming to Bengaluru, many people some way or the other dumped into my mind the false assumption about the city, but after staying 100 days and exploring the garden city of India. I fell in love with Bengaluru like “how butterflies fall in love with flowers”.

The FIRST thing I Loved in Bengaluru is girls(no offence to pseudo-feminists), they are open-minded, friendly and welcome the compliments regarding their beauty and dressing sense and I’ve observed that city is very good for women safety. The SECOND thing was parks…Parks…Parks everywhere; it feels so good when greenery haunts you wherever you go. Before I was thinking that no city is as good as Mumbai, no offence, maybe a little offence because Bangalore is as good as Mumbai, maybe because of its friendly people and the opportunities that both the cities provide for young Indians, Maybe the traffic that actually stopped me in my life and question about my sanity on roads for hours.

The first week, when I was roaming in Bengaluru I was so confused and had no idea about anything, like people say “some beautiful things in life confuse you before happening”. Metro saga and LBB Bangalore helped me with lots of valid information that made me explore Bengaluru. Unique things I observed in Bengaluru was a human library in Jaya Nagar and the stores that let you adopt pets, rented cycles in Cubbon Park. I bet there is more number of happy dogs in Bengaluru than any other city in India.

I think both Mumbai and Bengaluru have a fast-paced life. Everyone keeps running after their jobs day in and day out and people in Bengaluru give extreme importance to fitness. The reason Bengaluru became IT capital is because the Kannadigas have been welcoming and supportive.

The city has got matured crowd. One day when I was walking on the footpath, a boy grabbed my attention and he was selling socks, belts, lace and hand-kerchiefs’ who taught me how to behave with customers and I started considering him as my guru of Management lessons, and he is just twelve.

Enough said about people of Bangalore. Even though there are not many places to visit in Bengaluru – Malls, pubs, and parks will fill that gap and the biggest difference I noticed from a cultural perspective was the pub rock culture of Bangalore against the cocktail bar party music culture of Mumbai. The climate was so damn good that winter in Bangalore is best, never mind about the monsoon.

I was worried about food in the initial days because, With 50 Rs, you can fill your tummy in Mumbai. With cutting Chai for 5 Rs and Wada Pav at 10 Rs, nobody goes hungry. Bangalore is costlier and if you don’t have enough money, you are doomed, but I feel Bengaluru has better restaurants and Mumbai has excellent local Khau Gallis, I felt hard to find local food here, Should add that roadside eateries are extremely limited in Bengaluru. Have seen some chaat stalls around Marathalli areas which are ok, not great. Also seen some late evening idly stalls in Basvanagudi. Before Dum biryani was my favorite food and now Donne biryani is demanded by my taste buds.

Rickshaw drivers in Bengaluru give you mini heart attacks. They drive as if they are in an F1 race and actually deserve to be next Namma James Bonds. I don’t see festive fever in Bengaluru. People here are less enthusiastic when it comes to celebrating festivals except for Kannada Rajyotsava. I loved when every auto driver was erecting flags and roaming in the city streets.

Bengaluru is mostly of youth on the other side Mumbai is a combination of all ages. Bengaluru is a place for start-ups and Mumbai is a place for well-established business. I have never felt any problem with language because the auto-driver was once explaining me in English about the marketing strategy of Ola and Uber cabs in Bangalore. On Bangalore roads, you are more likely to see a lot of luxury cars.

End of the line all I want to say Garden City welcomes you with a lot of opportunities and is great for fulfilling your dreams. The good thing about Bangalore is when it starts giving you something; it’ll keep on giving you if you have enough to receive. I love the diversity that I see in India, each and every metro city got its own flavor of beauty, rather than saying Aamchi Mumbai or NAMMA Bengaluru, I prefer saying  MERA BHARAT MAHAAN.
