Quite recently a senior supreme court advocate Indira Jaising had advised Nirbhaya’s mother to forgive the four men on death row for ruthless rape that eventually took her life. Showing a strong response after that, Asha Devi said on Saturday: “Even if God asks me, I won’t forgive them.”
A strong response
Earlier on Friday, ace advocate, Indira Jaising had asked Asha Devi to grasp the example of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who had left for the mercy of a woman, Nalini Murugan convicted for the assassination of her husband and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.
“While I completely recognize the pain of Asha Devi, I urge her to follow the example of Sonia Gandhi who excused Nalini and said she didn’t want the death penalty for her. We are with you but against the death penalty,” Jaising tweeted on Friday.
Giving a strong statement over a phone, Asha Devi, said, “…even if god comes and asks me to pardon them, I will not. People like these (Jaising) are a blot on society.”
Returning on the advocate’s advice, Asha Devi said “She has no right to advise me to forgive them. What connection does she have with me? I have nothing to do with such people.”
“She is an insult to women. She is running a business in the name of human rights. She is an expert advocate, she should give a positive word to society. But she rather will go against her kind, for the sake of human rights,” she added.
Asha Devi joining Congress?
Stories of her political appearance started spreading like wildfire after sportsperson-turned-politician Kirti Azad engaged in a row of Tweets, where he declared that Asha Devi might contest Delhi assembly elections against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on a Congress ticket. Mr. Azad had tweeted. “Ae Maa Tujhe Salam. Asha Devi Ji Aapka Swagat Hai (Salute to the mother. Welcome Asha Devi).”
Although, Asha Devi on Friday placed an end to the reports of her joining the Congress for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, saying that she is “not interested” in politics.
A reporter had asked about the stories, in reply, Asha Devi told them, “I have no business in such things. I have been fighting to get justice for my daughter and the daughters of the country. I want the execution of the four convicts.” She added that she has not been approached by anyone for the same. Nirbhaya’s father Badrinath also stated that these media reporters are incorrect and that the family has no interest in joining politics.
