Delhi Gets 20 Ft. Tall Smog Tower To Tackle Air Pollution: Here Are The Things You Need To Know

Finally, the city diagnosed with poor quality air gets its first 20 ft tall smog tower on Friday. Delhi know for its blanketed toxic atmosphere, gets the smog tower which has been installed by the Traders Association Lajpat Nagar. It will intend to handle 2,50,000 to 6,00000 cubic meter air per day and release fresh air in recovery.

The first Smog Tower

The first Smog Tower in Delhi has become operational on Friday and the enormous 20-ft-tall machine has been installed at south Delhi’s popular Lajpat Nagar Central Market. The machine costing about Rs 7 Lakh, will purify the air in the Lajpat Nagar market, which sees an average straphanger of nearly 15,000 people every day.

The smog tower’s total height from the road level is 24 ft. It is cylindrical and is created like a pole with a big channel and four outlet sections.

The monstrous air purifier is equipped with exhaust fans to absorb in polluted air with the help of a big inlet unit. It is painted in four colors – orange on the top, white in the middle, the green color just above the bottom and blue at the bottom.

The smog tower is supposed to run on electricity. A device fixed inside the tower will eliminate nearly 80% of the particulate material- PM 2.5 and PM 10- and help to carry down pollution levels and blow fresh air out through four outlet units.

Air pollution is a big problem 

Till now the country’s capital has undergone dangerous levels of air pollution this winter which has been at a frightening level. The Supreme Court had earlier directed the Centre and the Delhi Government to take inspiration from China and come up with a project on installing smog towers in the Delhi NCR.

The tower cost Rs 7 lakh and was procured by the Gautam Gambhir Foundation. The average running cost of the tower is Rs 30,000 per month and will be paid by the traders’ association of Lajpat Nagar. This singular smog tower will treat the air in a circumference area of 500-750 square meters and will be able to treat 2,50,000 to 6,00,000 cubic meters of air per day.
