Bengaluru makes it to the top
The first-ever Prosperity & Inclusion City Seal and Awards (PICSA) Index is meant to showcase not only the quantity of economic growth of a city but also its quality and delivery across populations.
In the Global rating, Bengaluru is ranked 83 in the list. The other two cities to make it on the index, Delhi, and Mumbai. They both are ranked at 101 and 107, respectively, among 113 cities around the world.

Zurich in Switzerland topped the chart followed by Vienna (Austrian capital), which settled for second place. Copenhagen, Luxembourg, and Helsinki complete the top five.
“As the first-ever non-commercial ranking index, PICSA provides a new measure of economic productivity that goes beyond GDP to provide a holistic account of how well people are doing in the economy and which have the populations that are most empowered to contribute to its economy and share in its benefits,” said Asier Alea Castanos, Director of Strategic Programmes at the Regional Council of Biscay, in reference to the index launch.
“There is increasing recognition in governments and also the private sector that success needs to be judged in new ways: factors like health, housing affordability and quality of life need to be put alongside jobs, skills, and incomes when measuring prosperity,” he added.
The top 20 cities were awarded a PICSA Seal as the world’s highest-ranked cities building general accomplishment. The city that hosted the event was ranked at 20 in the index.
Most of the cities from Europe dominated the list, with 15 of the top 20, joined by four North American cities, Ottawa (8th), Washington DC (11th), Seattle (14th) and Boston (16th). Taipei was the only Asian city to make it into the top 20 in sixth place.
