Bengaluru And Hyderabad Airport Featured In The List Of Fastest Growing Airports In The World

Bengaluru and Hyderabad are now featured amongst the world’s fastest-growing airports. Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) tops the chart in the growing airports last year with 15 million passengers per annum category.

KIA tops the list of growing Airports in the world

According to the Airport Council International (ACI) report, KIA had recorded a whopping 32,331,783 passengers in its premises. It topped the list of five fastest-growing airport category with a growth rate of 29.1 percent. Similarly, Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was in third place with a growth rate of 21.9 percentage in passenger traffic. Hyderabad airport had 20,903,930 passengers in its premises last year.

Marking its place in the second position Turkey’s Antalya airport recorded a 22.1 percentage of growth rate. Whereas, Vnukovo Airport in Russia and Jinan Airport in China were positioned in fourth and fifth place in the chart.

A shocking report says the entire world’s airport served 8.8 billion passengers last year with 122.7 million metric tonnes of cargo and 99.9 million aircraft moments.

India as one of the emerging markets

The world’s fastest-growing airports are located in emerging markets, more than half of the proportion is located mainly in the Asia-Pacific region. In the top 30 list, 12 of such airports are located in either China or India.

“India’s move towards a more liberalized aviation market and the nation’s strengthening economic fundamentals have helped it become one of the fastest-growing markets with its traffic growing rapidly in a relatively short time,” ACI World Director General Angela Gittens said.

The top 3 airports for passenger traffic volume was positioned by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Beijing Capital International Airport, and Dubai International Airport.

Surprisingly none of the Indian airports listed in the top 20 in terms of cargo handling. Making to the top 5 airports based on cargo volumes– Hong Kong International Airport, Memphis International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Incheon International Airport, and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport were positioned in the previous year.
