App-based cab aggregator OLA has launched self-drive car rentals services in Bengaluru. OLA has looked to offer these cars on a short term rental, longterm subscription, and corporate leading models. However, the service is only deployed in Bengaluru and not nationwide.
OLA to provide Cars for rent
The cab service app had earlier confirmed that it was looking to invest Rs 500 million on self-driving rental space and after six months they have finally launched the ‘OLA Drive’ service for leasing and subscription of the cars. However, the firm has recently received the license for the services.
Taking inspiration from Zoomcars, Driverzy, and Myles, OLA will deploy 10,000 such cars (Sedans, Hatchbacks, and SUV) that will be rented. The Self-Drive Booking feature provides Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, and Mahindra. It has also engaged in talks with luxury carmakers like Audi, Mercedes and BMW to include luxury cars in Ola’s fleet by paying a monthly subscription.
Pickup and drop the car
Users can lease the car both intracity and inter-city from pickup and drop points. The rentals for Micro-car would cost a customer about Rs 444 for two hours and Mini-cars would cost a customer nearly 314 to 363 respectively. The major rental points are Garuda Mall and Forum Mall (Koramangala), Ashok Nagar, ITPL, et al.
The firm has only planned this service in Bengaluru to test it before expanding it to the customers nationwide. However, this service is not active for all OLA users (to be accessible for all users in the next two-three weeks) in Bengaluru as the company is testing the performance of the services. Apart from renting cabs, the firm has plans to bundle subscription and long-term leasing to corporates.
