R Madhavan, a popular actor was earlier targeted for his religious faith. Thursday on Independence day, the 49-year-old posted a photo in his traditional attire. Social media, especially Twitter users were quick enough to spot a cross in the background which emerged became a reason for criticism. Some lashed out at Madhavan and called him ‘fake’ Hindu believer. The actor then lashed out those critics and gave them a befitting reply and shut the trolls down.
Madhavan’s Instagram Picture trolls
On the day of India’s 73 Independence R Madhavan posted a picture on social media where he can be seen with his son Vedaant and his father Ranganathan on Avani Avittam. He is seen sitting in traditional attire and wearing the Janeu (the sacred thread) as they prepared for puja Avani Avittam (changing the thread ceremony) in his home. He wrote on Instagram, “Wish you all a very happy INDEPENDENCE DAY, RAKSHA BANDHAN AND AVANI AVITTAM. Prayers for peace and prosperity for ALL in this world continues.”
Soon after his picture went viral, some twitter users spotted a cross in the background and tweeted “Why do they have across in the background?! Is that a Mandir? You just lost my respect. Do you find Hindu Gods in Christian churches? All this is fake drama you did today.”

The actor then lashed out and said he believes all religion equally and respects them by giving equal importance. He said in a Twitter post, “I don’t worry about respect from the likes of you. I hope you get well soon. Surprised that in u r sickness you did not see the Golden temple pic there too and asked if I converted to Sikhism. I have a blessing from the Dargas there too and blessing from all religious places around the world. Some gifted and some bought. My home is home to staff from all faiths and we pray at a common altar.”
