Rakhi is a special festival celebrated in India that represents bonding between brother and sister.  It is a festival without any bindings of religious rituals. According to a story, when Rani Karnavati found that Bahadur Shah from Gujarat had attacked her state, she sent Rakhi to then Mogul emperor Humayun calling him a brother and asking for help. Surprisingly, even the Emperor responded to her request and came with his army to save Rani Karnavati.

Thus, Raksha Bandhan is one festival which represents the unity between Hindu and Muslims in India. And the same illustrious example is being taken forward by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Rakhi sister Qamar Mohsin Shaikh, a Pakistan-origin.

Qamar To Tie Rakhi To Modi On 15th August

This year India is celebrating Independence Day and Rakhi Festival on the same day- 15th August. On this special occasion, Qamar who originally belongs to Pakistan will tie rakhi to PM Modi. She has been doing so since past more than 21-23 years.

According to reports, Modiji met Qamar when he was an RSS worker. She met the current Indian PM during one of her visits to Delhi with her painter husband. Ever since then both the brother and the sister has kept the tradition alive.

Sweet Gesture Of Sibling Bonding

Even after Narendra Modi became prime minister in 2014, Qamar continued celebrating Rakhi festival and every year comes to Delhi to tie rakhi to Modiji. The Rakhi-sister of the PM came to India from Pakistan and after her marriage and since then has been living in India.

Currently Qamar lives with her family in Ahmedabad and as usual this year too she has traveled to Delhi for tying the thread of sibling bond on the wrist of Modi. In the backdrop of the intensification of tension between India and Pakistan post undoing of Article 370, this gesture of sibling bonding is indeed highly appreciable.
