Bengaluru Alone Reports 65% Of Karnataka’s Dengue Cases In Two Weeks Followed by Dakshina Kannada

In recent weeks, citizens of the city are witnessing a scare of Dengue. The disease has already infected around 3393 people in Bengaluru. And this is because, the monsoon rain, which has triggered pesky mosquitos in the local areas, resulting in the growing percentage of the disease. Research says, Bengaluru has alone reported 65% of Karnataka’s Dengue cases in two weeks.

Spooky states of growing disease in the city

Since January 1 the state has reported around 3058 dengue cases till 3rd July. And, interestingly, within 2 weeks the number increased dramatically which is very terrifying. As from July 4th to today’s date, the state has registered around 1,714 such cases which is unbelievable. However, this year the state has overall reported 4,772 cases of dengue in which 35% of cases are reported in this couple of weeks.

What’s jaw-dropping is, Bengaluru has alone reported 1,121 cases of Dengue, which makes 65% of overall reports of the state. Other than this, the city has reported overall 2951 cases this year. Apart from Bengaluru, Dakshin Kannada (353), Shivamogga (206), Kalaburagi (134), Haveri (129) have reported spooky numbers of such growing cases too.

Experts on this alarming problem

Jawaid Akhtar, who is a principal secretary of health and family welfare department has written a letter to the urban development department, warning about the situation. The letter read, “Over 39% of the cases are from urban areas. The health department has taken up preventive measures on a war-footing and the same have to be effectively implemented in urban regions….”

“The irregular rains have resulted in an increase in mosquito menace. BBMP has taken precautions. ASHA are visiting affected areas to educate the public about covering water containers; a household survey will be done soon,” said a BBMP official.

Storing water is extremely necessary for the residents in Bengaluru, hence this is the biggest reason for the rising mosquito population in the local areas. The doctors suggest that a person should drink water regularly, keep the environment clean and take solid waste management. And have also suggested using mosquito coils to avoid these troublesome creatures.
