Security and facility are the two topmost concerns for all the public service organizations. After the KSR and Yeshwantpur metro stations in Bengaluru, it is the turn of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to get the face recognition system.
The new upgrade is a part of the Digi Yatra Biometric Boarding System which will eliminate the reliability on printing boarding passes. The security scanners will be equipped with an advanced biometric security solution allowing the passengers to simply walk in through the security scanners.
Your Face To Become A Boarding Pass
Almost everyone has gone through the hassles of forgetting or misplacing a boarding pass. But soon that will be a thing of the past at least for the passengers at the KIA. It is because for the frequent flyers at the Bengaluru’s airport, their face will soon serve as the boarding pass.
According to reports, the Digi Yatra program will roll out a face recognition system at KIA in the third quarter of the current year. Incidentally, it will make KIA the first airport in the country to implement this technology.
A spokesperson of BIAL said that the process of implementing the Digi Yatra Biometric Boarding System (BBS) is underway. The field acceptance trials were already executed at the end of March this year.
Also, the hardware production has started so that BIAL can roll out the Digi Yatra Program as planned by the start of the third quarter of 2019.
BIAL To Integrate BBS Of KIA With Platform
According to the spokesperson, “Based on current timelines, we expect that trials and phased rollout of the Digi Yatra Central Identity Management Platform to begin at the BLR Airport in Q3 2019. Once the central platform is set up, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) will integrate the BBS of the Airport with the platform.”
With the implementation of Digi Yatra, BBS passengers will be saved from the hassles of carrying printed boarding passes. The new system providing an advanced biometric security solution will allow the passengers to simply walk in through the security scanners.
After Bengaluru, the same technology will be implemented one by one at other major airports in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
These new implementations are the part of an agreement signed by the international airport operators with Vision-Box, a Portugal-based tech company. Vision-Box will be implementing the paperless biometric self-boarding technology at KIA.
BIAL selected the Portuguese company after floating Request For Proposal (RFP) to various other vendors for installing this system.
As per the agreement BIAL, Air Asia, Jet Airways, and SpiceJet passengers will be the first to use this facility at KIA. Since Jet Airways have stopped its operations, another replacement will be soon added to this list.
