Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will soon start deploying drones for monitoring its construction projects aerially. Bengaluru is an IT hub and hence is more often the first to use innovative sciences and technology to add more efficiency to overall execution. So it is not surprising that such a technology is now being used to drive construction projects.
Aerial Monitoring Restricted To Fortnightly Basis
Operated by the Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL), the KIA will use the drones at the start only on a fortnightly basis. The projects that KIA plans to survey using drones include the T2 terminal, New South Parallel Runway (NSPR) project covering an area of 624 acres, forecourt project covering an area of around 128 acres and apron project covering 166 acres.
These unmanned drones will deliver HD images and footage. It will provide an update about the pace of work on various construction sites including a terminal, new runaway, and the other simultaneously ongoing infrastructure works.
At present, the projects that are being carried out at the Kempegowda International Airport are a part of the Phase 2 expansion plan of KIA. The new infrastructure that is being used for the purpose is laced with advanced technologies to make operations safer as well as smoother.
Work On Second Runaway To Complete By September
According to reports, the work on the second runaway is expected to complete by September. It will become operational after a month from its completion. This runaway covering an area of 4 km will have CAT III B Instrument Landing System (ILS).
This new system will ensure that the flights can land safely even during dense fog or when the visibility is low.
This new development is a part of the infrastructural upgrade for the Kempegowda International Airport announced during January this year. It is a 13,000 crore program which includes the development of a second runway, a new terminal and much more.
The expansion will be completed by 2021 and will offer jobs to around 45,000 people.
