Bengaluru saw 19 cases of COVID-19 being reported on Friday, the highest in the city since the outbreak of the deadly virus.
19 cases on Friday
Until Friday, only cases in single digits or just a few more were being reported in the Silicon City. However, on Friday, 19 cases have been reported, thereby unsettling the citizens of the city.
All these cases have been reported from the Hongasandra and Padarayanapura clusters of the city. With this, there are a total of 21 cases from Hongasandra and 24 from Padarayanapura. In Hongasandra, the majority of the cases are migrant laborers and their contacts.
On Friday, 11 cases were found in Hongasandra and all are said to have contracted the virus from P419, a Bihari worker whose source of infection is unknown. Regarding cases in Padarayanapura, BBMP Special Commissioner M Lokesh said:
“From these three cases — P167, P158, and P181 — the total number of cases in Padarayanapura has gone up to 24.”
P167 is a 29-year-old male; P158 is a 28-year-old man isolated at a Mysuru hospital, and P181 is a 27-year-old woman. All have travel history to Delhi. The officials have already quarantined the contacts of the new cases. Around 248 contacts have been quarantined in Padarayanapura while 245 have been isolated in Hongasandra.
The Government had allowed construction activities in the state
A few days ago, the Government of Karnataka had given permission for certain construction and infrastructure activities to resume in the state. However, with a few of the latest cases turning out to be laborers, it needs to be seen if BSY and his team would take any decision regarding their orders.
