Remakes of movies always seem to draw a lot of criticism, particularly when a classic is about to get remade. But, we must admit that Remaking or adapting a film right from the beginning of its plot, scenes, dialogues, songs, and other technical things such as action or VFX sequences is an easy way of making a film than just sitting and writing everything all alone with all the detailing. Sometimes it may also take years to complete a movie.
Bollywood has grown so fond of outlining that it has lately reconsidered chasing originality and is focusing on remakes more than we’d like. But it was not always the Hindi Cinema, down south there were also actors who did more remakes from other languages.

Kamal Haasan (Tamil) – 60 + Movies
At the top, it’s Tamil actor Kamal Haasan, who has worked in remakes for more than 60 films from various languages, some of them including his movies from Tamil to other languages and foreign films to Indian languages. He has acted in over 230 films that have 60+ remakes. Some of his popular remakes are- Kalathur Kannamma, Paruva Kaalam, Panathukkaga, Cinema Paithiyam, Raasaleela, Mattoru Seetha.
Rajinikanth (Tamil) – 60 Remakes
Thalaivar Rajinikanth who appeared in over 260+ films in his career has worked in 60 remakes from various languages. Some of his popular remakes are- Anthuleni Katha, Moondru Mudichu, Baalu Jenu, Chilakamma Cheppindi, Kumkuma Rakshe, Galate Samsara, Shankar Salim Simon, Annadammula Savaal.
Megastar Chiranjeevi (Telugu) – 38 remakes
Telugu Superstar Chiranjeevi has worked on more than 150 movies in the lead role of which 38+ movies were remakes from other language industries. Some of the remakes are- Mana Voori Pandavulu, Idi Katha Kaadu, Punnami Naagu (1980 film), Prema Tarangalu, Chattaniki Kallu Levu, Patnam Vachina Pativrathalu.
Mohan Lal (Malayalam)– 34 movies
Drishyam fame Mohan Lal has acted in more than 350+ films (mostly in the lead roles) and has more than 30 remake films in his career as a lead actor in Kerala cinema. The popular remakes are- Guru Dakshina (1983 film),Chakravalam Chuvannappol, Pathamudayam, Boeing Boeing (1985 film), Parayanumvayya.
Venkatesh Daggubati (Telugu) – 32 remakes
Telugu superstar Venkatesh Daggubati acted in over 70+ movies later in Telugu and Hindi languages. Most of his movies were remakes from other language industries which include- Bharatamlo Arjunudu, Trimurtulu, Raktha Tilakam, Brahma Puthrudu, Varasudochadu, Two Town Rowdy, Chanti (1992 film)
Dr. Shiva Rajkumar (Kannada) – 28 remakes
Kannada superstar Dr. Shivarajkumar who made more than 100 films as an actor in the lead role in a career spanning over 35 years has remade 25+ films from other language industries. Some of the remakes are- Shiva, Mecchida Kannappa, Aasegobba Meesegobba, Aralida Hoovugalu, Modada Mareyalli, Mutthanna, Ganga Yamuna, Muddina Kanmani.
Upendra (Kannada) – 27 movies
Kannada actor Upendra has seen success with both acting and directing and actor and is currently busy with more than 5 films in his kitty as an actor. His popular remakes are- Omkaram, Preethse, Super Star (2002 film), I Love You (2019 film), Upendra Matte Baa.
Mammootty (Malayalam) – 26 Films
Malayalam actor Mammootty has acted in 400+ films in his career and went on to do 26 remake films from various languages across the world. His popular remakes are- Munnettam, Sindoora Sandhyakku Mounam, Oru Thira Pinneyum Thira, John Jaffer Janardhanan, Chakravalam Chuvannappol, Guru Dakshina (1983 film).
Nagarjuna Akkineni (Telugu) – 20+ remakes
Telugu actor Nagarjuna has acted in over 100 films in the lead role and has remade more than 20 remakes in his career so far. Popular remakes- Vikram (1986 Telugu film), Kirayi Dada, Janaki Ramudu, Neti Siddhartha, Nirnayam (1991 film).
Nandamuri Balakrishna (Telugu) – 17 remakes
Nandamuri Balakrishna who has acted in more than 100 movies in the lead roles in Indian Telugu cinema has made 17 remakes. The list has- Disco King (film), Mangammagari Manavadu, Aatmabalam, Babai Abbai, Nippulanti Manishi (1986 film), Ramu (1987 film), Muvva Gopaludu, Bhanumati Gari Mogudu, Muddula Mavayya, Ashoka Chakravarthy.
