On Saturday, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh ordered all the police stations in the state to set up a glass room for women to register their complaints before women police officers.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the order was made to help women to feel comfortable when they register their complaints with the police personnel. There are 1,535 police stations across the state of Uttar Pradesh will now have women help desk. Chief Minister Adityanath inaugurated the help desks on Friday. This is a step in the initiative of Mission Shakti campaign of the Uttar Pradesh government which would enhance the safety for women in the state.
At the help desk and even in the glass secret room, all the helpline numbers such as 1090, 181, 112, 1076, 1098 and 102 will be displayed. There will also be a warning of action if anyone misuses the helpline. The desk will also have a CCTV camera and a computer ahead of the personnel. The Chief Minister also said that the stationery to write a complaint should be provided by the personnel.
Respect For Women Is Important
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also said that respect for women in people’s minds is the main focus of the Mission Shakti programmes and hence called for programmes to be included in the educational curriculum. He also called for respecting women to be a tradition in schools in morning assembly prayers and cultural events. He also said that the Mission Shakti programme has triggered politics trying to blow incidents out of proportions referring to the Hathras gang-rape incident.
During the programme, the Chief Minister spoke to the women teachers, police personnel, representatives of voluntary organisations and also people’s representatives in the inaugurated women help desks at the police stations of Gautam Buddha Nagar, Lucknow, Varanasi, Meerut and Agra.
