The mega contest of T20 world cup in cricket will pave the way for new stars to shine and at the same time some legends of the game will retire from the format. One amongst them is the Indian head coach Ravi Shastri will be parting ways from his duties as the chief mentor of the team. Post his departure, who will seek to throne the crucial position is yet to be confirmed and recently the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has opted for his personal favourite Rahul Dravid.
The Great Wall Might Be A Great Decision
During the question-answer session, the former Indian skipper and BCCI chief said that the last time Dravid was asked about becoming the head coach of the team, he had said that he wasn’t interested in the permanent role. Having said that, Ganguly did not give up hope of The Wall’s affirmative answer and said that they will cross that bridge when they get to it.
“I understand he’s not interested (in the job) on a permanent basis.… But we haven’t asked him about it specifically. We will see when we come to it,” Ganguly said. The world, and more importantly the fans of the Indian cricket team, got the taste of Dravid’s involvement with the team when he said yes to head-coaching the B-String of the Men in Blue during their T20I and ODI tour of Sri Lanka this year.
Dravid Will Mentor The Youngsters
Dravid is the head coach of the India U-19 and the India A squad before taking command of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru back in 2019. He is also often credited as the man who was behind structuring such a deep talent pool of young Indian cricketers that ensured a continuous supply for world-class athletes in the last 5 years and will continue to do so for at least 5 years more.
At the moment it’s also a point of discussion as to why Dhoni is appointed as the mentor for the senior team in the presence of head coach Shastri. Well, it would be a great combo when the legends will be together guiding the team however, it also hints towards grooming Dhoni to secure the spot in the upcoming years. Whether it be Dhoni or Dravid one thing is for sure… Great days for Indian cricket is yet to come!
