Union Minister Rajnath Singh announced the appointment of Tarkishore Prasad as the leader of the BJP party. BJP is promoting Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi as deputy CM as a part of its strategy to expand base in Bihar.
1. Tarkishore Prasad is MLA from Katihar Assembly seat
Tarkishore Prasad, 64, is an MLA from Katihar Assembly since 2005. This time he has defeated Ram Prakash Mahato of RJD by around ten thousand votes.
2. Tarkishore Prasad is active in BJP since its inception
Tarkishore Prasad has an old association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. His family is originally from the Talkhua village of Saharsa district. He belongs to the Kalwar Vaishya society, which has the status of backward class in Bihar.
3. Tarkishore belongs to a business family from Katihar
Tarkishore Prasad’s father, originally associated with a business family, carries on a clothing business. He has also operated a medical store. In 2001, he was also the President of the Chamber of Commerce in Katihar. Tarkishore Prasad has a good hold in the city’s business class. There is a wave of happiness in the business community of Katihar with the dreams of being made the President of BJP Legislature becoming Deputy CM.
4. Tarkishore won assembly election first time in 2005
Tarkishore Prasad contested for the first time in the year 2005 and defeated Dr. Ram Prakash Mahato by 165 votes in a very close contest.
He then won the 2010 and then 2015 assembly elections by a considerable margin. This time he managed to win the election with a huge difference of ten thousand.
5. Tarkishore Prasad won a very tough fight
