Tik Tok Ban: CEO Writes A Letter, Says Platform Empowered Thousands Even In Villages

A day after the popular Chinese application Tik Tok was banned in India, the CEO of the company Kevin Mayer has written a message for its employees.

On Monday, the Indian government banned 59 mobile applications that have its origin in China citing the reason for protecting the data and privacy of the people of India. This comes in the wake of the military face-off between India and China along the eastern Ladakh region.

For safety, security, defense, sovereignty and integrity of India and in order to protect the data of the people of India, the Government of India banned these applications. This has been long requested by the social media users after the Chinese military had a face-off with the Indian military killing 20 Indian soldiers.

The most popular among the 59 applications was Tik Tok. In the open letter, Mayer assured that they are working with all stakeholders to address the concern with the application and also told that the employees are the biggest strength of the company. He wrote,

“At Tik Tok, our efforts are guided by our commitment to democratizing the internet. To a large extent, we believe we have been successful in this effort. Our platform has encountered an unfortunate challenge in India. However, we stay resolved and committed to our mission, and are working with stakeholders to address their concerns. Tik Tok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and places the highest importance on user privacy and integrity. Since 2018, we have worked hard to ensure that over 200 million users in India are able to express their joy and creativity, celebrate self-expression, and share experiences with a growing global community.”

He also stressed the impact the app has created through its videos and its creators. He further wrote,

“Tik Tok has enabled hundreds of millions of users to enjoy the creative works of artists, storytellers, educators, and performers from across the country who have forged new avenues of livelihood improvements. While sharing their skills and talents on a global stage, these performers, artists, and entertainers have received opportunities for brand promotions and associations that were once considered the exclusive domain of film stars and sports celebrities. Today, it is a staple and reality for Tik Tok users even in remote cities, towns, and villages across the country. Empowered individual creators have become the most sought-after for digital marketing campaigns. Small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs have been able to realize their growth ambitions and dreams by reaching out to thousands of potential customers and consumers on a daily basis, through the platform.”
