Tablighi Jamaat: Two COVID-19 Patients in Andaman Booked For Misleading

Two patients who were tested positive for the COVID-19 are now booked for misleading the officials on contact tracing. It has come to light that both of them attended the Tablighi Jamaat Congregation from where a ton of cases is being reported in the last 24 hours.

Tablighi Jamaat Congregation in the Nizammudin region of the national capital is becoming the hotbed of the outbreak in the country after six of them died in Telangana after attending the congregation. Social media too has erupted against the congregation and has criticized the need for it. While there has been debate about the date of the event, the Delhi government has filed FIRs against the organizers after over 50 people from the congregation tested positive in the country.

Tablighi Jamaat Attendees in Andaman

Now, two people from Andaman Island who tested positive are also confirmed to have attended the congregation but hid it from the officials. The authorities met them to trace their travel history and contact history, both of them continuously seem to mislead the authority until yesterday when it was confirmed that they were the part of the congregation that has now become the hotspot.

The Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman District has ordered to file FIRs on the two individuals for deliberately misleading the authorities in the time of health emergency. Abhijit Roy, Deputy director health and the nodal officer in Andaman confirmed that nine out of ten patients who have tested positive on the island had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation.

The Tablighi Jamaat Congregation has infected a shiver done the spine of the officials as over 3,000 people attended the event and the Nizamuddin area has a close-knit population of at least 20,000. The tracing of people has begun and the government has kept a close eye on the area.

India saw a steep rise in the number of cases as it stands at 1657 confirmed cases with Maharashtra crossing the 300 figure mark. The death toll has reached 50 and the number of people discharged after recovering is 150. The National Capital Delhi also crossed 100 confirmed cases while only one patient is in the intensive care unit.
