In a period of darkness, a message of hope has traveled all the way from the Swiss Alps to India, as the entire globe struggles to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.

The picture is that one of the highest peaks in Switzerland, the Matterhorn mountain which has been lit up with an image of the Indian flag to express unity and inspire the country, as it braces for a tough challenge ahead.
Switzerland Indian Embassy responds
“Switzerland expresses solidarity with India in its fight against COVID-19. Swiss mountain of Matterhorn lit in tricolor. Friendship from the Himalayas to the Alps.” Gurleen Kaur, an Indian Foreign Service Officer based in Geneva, wrote on Twitter.
The Zermatt tourist office, which handles the mountains said:
“The Indian flag on the Matterhorn, Switzerland’s landmark, is intended to express our solidarity and give hope and strength to all Indians.“
The event has been happening since the past one week
For the last one week, the Matterhorn peak is lit with words and images, from four kilometers onto the north and the east faces of the mountain. Light artist Gerry Hofstetter has been at the forefront of this unique gesture.
The first project was the national flag of Switzerland, which was projected onto the 14692-foot tall mountain. The flags of Italy and Ticino have also found space on this mountain.
Cases close in on the 15000-mark
The cases in India are close to the 15000-mark, with Union Ministry reporting a total of 14692 cases and 480 deaths.
