Responding to the allegation of Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut questioning the motives of his gestures, Sonu Sood broke his silence and said that his effort to help the migrants is coming straight from his heart.
Sonu Sood has been the biggest source of hope for many migrants in the country during the pandemic. The actor who usually plays negative roles on screen has been the talk of the town through his initiative to send the stranded migrants home. However, this endeavor of the actor has met with criticism from the ruling party of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena.
The Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut looked at the actor’s action through a political lens and asked whether the Bharatiya Janata Party is behind Sonu Sood. With Sonu helping the stranded migrants, the Bharatiya Janata Party is looking to show the Uddhav Thackeray led government in a bad light, Raut said. He even went onto sarcastically mock the actor as he called him “Sonu Sood” and also took a jibe by saying the actor might meet the Prime Minister soon. On Sunday, Sonu broke his silence and wrote on Twitter,
“My journey with my migrant brothers and sisters has been the most special one. It’s straight from the heart, Right from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari whenever anyone tried to reach me, I have put all my efforts to help them reunite with their families and will continue to do so. I would like to thank all the state governments who helped me in the process. I’m immensely grateful to them for always encouraging my efforts for the entire nation. Jai Hind.”
Congress condemns Shiv Sena
In his weekly column Rokhtok in the Shiv Sena magazine Saamana, Sanjay Raut referred to a string operation that was done on Sonu Sood ahead of the 2019 general elections where he had agreed to promote the BJP government through his social media platforms. Raut also said that no wise man can believe Sonu Sood’s sympathy for laborers and migrants.
Shiv Sena’s ally party, Congress has taken a different stance. Congress leader Abhishek Many Singhvi condemned the statements made by Sanjay Raut. He also said that the actor shouldn’t be criticized if he is genuinely helping the migrants and also mentioned that private citizens who are willing to help should be welcomed.
