On similar lines, a man from Kerala has gone the extra mile to convert his only means of livelihood into a free service for those in needy during these difficult times.
Benny has converted his Auto into an Ambulance
Benny Puthenpurakkal is an auto-driver from Kochi, Kerala. He is also a social worker in the Kochi corporation area. Benny has converted his auto into an ambulance, with an intention to provide free service to needy people in these difficult COVID times.
‘An Incident in my life made me take this decision’
Speaking to the Times of India, Benny revealed that an incident in his life during the COVID time made him take the decision of converting his three-wheeler into an ambulance. One day, an ASHA worker came to him requesting his supporting to take a poor person, who had tested positive for COVID-19, to the hospital.
Benny not only helped in that request but also ensured that the other needs of that person and his family were taken care of. He revealed that he got a PPE kit from the hospital during this time.
‘I serve 2-3 patients per day’
Depending on the requests by the councillors and the ASHA workers, Benny said that he attends to 2-3 requests per day. Apart from this, he also helps in delivering medicines and other essentials to the needy.
When asked about his family’s support, Benny said that his wife and two children are happy and appreciate his work. He also requested people to take maximum precautionary measures during this time.
