Rain Brings Trouble in Bengaluru AGAIN; House Collapses, Roads Flood, Lake Breaches

Parts of Bengaluru were flooded after heavy rains lashed the city on Monday and Tuesday, causing traffic jams and submerging several low-lying areas.

Following heavy rains on Monday evening, many areas in India’s IT capital were once again flooded. Several roads and low-lying areas were submerged, houses were damaged, trees were uprooted, and the showers caused heavy traffic. Several areas remained underwater on Tuesday morning as well.

Rajarajeshwari Nagar and the south zone of the city, which were mainly hit by heavy downpours, received the heaviest rainfall. Areas like Banashankari Kumaraswamy Layout, Gottigere, Begur, Hemmigepura, Uttarahalli, Jayanagar, Kengeri, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, HAL airport, Hoodi, and Pulakeshinagar saw maximum rain.

Three homes in Hosakerehalli were affected by flooding, and many streets were covered with sewage-mixed, particularly in Pushpaguri, D’souza Nagar, and Munneswaranagar.

Meanwhile, numerous city roads, such as the Outer Ring Road, Bannerghatta Road, Hosur Road, Bellandur, HSR Layout, Shanthinagar, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar, Lakkasandra, and Kanakapura Road, saw chaos and congestion as a result of the vehicles becoming stranded in knee-deep water.

In South Bengaluru’s Veerabhadranagar, an empty house collapsed, damaging three nearby parked cars. The incident however did not result in any reported casualties.

Rain to Continue in City

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that rain will continue in Bengaluru over the next few days, including on May 10 election day.

Several Places in the city are expected to experience widespread moderate rains with irregular heavy rains and thundershowers, according to the weather forecasters, at least until May 11.

According to a recent report, even one centimeter of rain will cause flooding in many Bengaluru neighborhoods. As many as 226 flood-prone locations in the city were identified in a report recently submitted to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). In some of these locations, flooding can occur with just one centimeter of rainfall.
