The former captain of India, Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. He has been entrusted with the responsibility to oversee all the activities related to cricket at NCA. During his tenure as cricket head, he will be performing the tasks of coaching, mentoring, training, and motivating players as well as coaches and support staff at NCA.
Dravid To Work Closely With Men’s And Women’s Coaches
According to reports, Rahul Dravid will be working in close association with the head coaches of National Men’s and Women’s team and Cricket Coaches for India Developmental teams. These will include India A, India Under 19, India under 23 teams. He will primarily look into fulfilling key training and development objectives.
Dravid will also be monitoring the progress of the teams against these objectives for the developmental teams and accordingly come up with necessary inputs on them to the Senior Women’s and Men’s Head Coaches. While entrusting this important responsibility to Rahul Dravid, BCCI has wished him very best for his new role with NCA.
Job At India Cements Delayed Rahul From Taking Over The Post
Earlier Dravid was supposed to take over as the head of cricket NCA from July 1 but due to his job at the India Cements he was delayed in taking over his responsibilities. Reports say that the Committee of Administrators (CoA) had asked Dravid to give up his post as vice-president of India Cements or take leave until he is serving at NCA.
To avoid any conflict, India Cements decided to send Dravid on leave so that the star cricketer can take up his new responsibility. According to a release by BCCI, “Mr. Dravid will oversee all cricket related activities at NCA and will be involved in mentoring, coaching, training and motivating players, coaches and support staff at the NCA.”
The tenure of appointment for Dravid has not been specified by BCCI as of yet. The decision to appoint Dravid as head of cricket at NCA has been in pipeline since last few months.
It should be noted that the Karnataka right-hand batsman was the coach of the Under-19 team that reached the finals of the world cup. So, his previous experience as both coach and cricketer will play a key role in making him successful at NCA.
