On September 30, a Twitter battle broke out between Tamil and Telugu cinema fans after a group of them compared Baahubali with Ponniyin Selvan. Here’s what went down on Twitter.
Ps 1 vs Bahubali
Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 was released in the theatres on September 30 amid huge buzz. After this, a section of people compared Ponniyin Selvan to SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali starring Prabhas and Rana Daggubati. This outraged a lot of Tamilians, which triggered a war against people who compared PS 1 to Baahubali on Twitter. Many attempted to reason it by saying that Baahubali was a fantasy film, while Ponniyin Selvan was historical fiction.
Such comparisons occurred when director Mani Ratnam stated back then that the success of Baahubali movies is a major boost for anyone, who wishes to take big budget period dramas. This was wrongly interpreted by a section as Mani Ratnam stating that the Ponniyin Selvan movies are inspired by the Baahubali movies just because the director used the word ‘inspiration’ for putting forward his point.
Twitter Reactions
It has now become a full-fledged war on Twitter between Tamil and Telugu fans.
Baahubali scenes were copied from the iconic Ponniyin selvan by SSR.
Can I now tell that Baahubali is the cheap copy of PS? https://t.co/3aL6ATilIf pic.twitter.com/ujBJ8Dph3R

Please don't compare #PonniyinSelvan with Baahubali franchise.
Ponniyin Selvan is deeply rooted and super focused on story. It has storytelling at its best. It has been mostly shot in real-life locations. In terms of making, it's at par with GOT, Gladiator and LOTR. #PS1— George (@VijayIsMyLife) September 30, 2022
Stop comparing our pride #PonniyinSelvan #PS1 with your fictional #Baahubali !! #PS1 is purely story driven !! It's not mandatory that #PS1 need to have "why kattapa killed baahubali" just for the sake of hyping 2nd part !!

It’s funny & irrelevant that people compare #PonniyinSelvan1 with #Baahubali which released 7 yrs ago. Rajamouli has moved on & presented a couple of movies and we still compare new movies with BB ?
The level of impact Rajamouli and TFI has created ❤️#PS1 #Rajamouli

#JayamRavi told director Rajamouli that they finished two parts of #PonniyinSelvan in 150 days. Rajamouli got up from the chair and said, 'don't say this and scare me.' Because hetook 5 years to finish two parts of Baahubali?#PonniyinSelvan1 #PS1pic.twitter.com/VrA1V9038W

Comparing #PS1 with #Baahubali is sheer foolishness. #Baahubali has a plot which can be narrated in 3 lines, #PS1 has great depth and has a complicated screenplay. Considering the grandeur which #Baahubali possessed it cannot be said that #Baahubali was better than #PS1

Why are jealous #Tollywood fans spreading unwanted hate towards Ponniyin Selvan without seeing it? Don't forget tamil people celebrated and had outpouring love for #Baahubali when it released. We were the one who cherished the film and supported! #PonniyinSelvan1 #AishwaryaRai

Baahubali is a milestone in Indian Cinema. One of a kind. Fictional and larger than life movie. Enjoyed by many across the world. You can appreciate ponniyin selvan without degrading Bahubali. You are causing hatred among Telugu audience.

Baahubali is nothing but copy from lion King and visual references from ponniyin selvan book..

People comparing Baahubali to PS should know that Ponniyin Selvan was such an inspiration for Baahubali that it copies so many of the plot beats.
Also, one of the most iconic frames from the film is copied directly from a description in PS (which is why it's named PS).
