‘Open Mosques, Let Muslims Pray For Eid al-Adha’, Says Samajawadi MP Shafique Rehman Barq

Member of Parliament from Sambhal, Shafiqur Rehman Barq on Tuesday demanded the government to open up mosques of Idgahs on the occasion of the Eid al-Adha festival.

The Samajwadi Party’s Member of Parliament said that the festival should be organized like previous years for Bakrid. He also demanded the operation of markets so that Muslims can make their purchases for the festival. As per the social distancing guidelines by the central government, all festivals during the COVID-19 has been put on hold.

However, Barq went on to say that he has met authorities and has placed the demands. He also said that the authorities to let Muslims offer prayers as he feels that could help the country solve the coronavirus pandemic. The government is yet to issue directives for the festival that is slated on the 1st of August. As per reports, like previously with Eid al-Fitr, only five people will be allowed to offer prayers at a mosque.

India Records Highest Recoveries

On Tuesday, India recorded the highest daily recoveries of 28,472 in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of recoveries has reached to 7,53,049.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country is close to reaching 12 lakhs. The current toll is at 11,95,652 with 37,000 cases reported in the last 24 hours. This is good news for the government which is trying to stop the spread. The recoveries should cross the number of confirmed cases in order for the pandemic to steep down.

The state of Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with over 3 lakh cases. With 3,27,031 cases, Maharashtra has 1,32,236 active cases and 1,82,217 recoveries. The death toll in the state is at 12,276. The state of Tamil Nadu is a far second to Maharashtra with 1,80,643 confirmed cases with 51,347 active cases. The recoveries in the state have crossed 1.25 lakh. The death toll is remarkably low for the state with 2,626 COVID deaths.

The state of Delhi which is on its way to recovery is at the third place with 1,25,096 and currently has only 15,288 active cases. The state has over 1 lakh recovery with over 3,000 deaths. The state of Karnataka has off late been one of the biggest contributors to the daily increase of the nation. The state has 71,000 cases with only 25,000 recoveries.
