On Sunday, former Congress president and senior leader Rahul Gandhi gave a scathing statement on his Twitter handle.
Talking about the recent Hathras gang-rape case and slamming Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Gandhi tweeted,
“The shameful truth is many Indians don’t consider Dalits, Muslims, and Tribals to be human. The Chief Minister & his police say no one was raped because for them, and many other Indians, she was NO ONE.”
Gandhi also shared an article published in the BBC on the Hathras incident which questioned the Uttar Pradesh police and the government for insisting that the girl was not raped. The report also asked,
“The evidence backs up her story, so why do officials keep insisting she wasn’t raped?”
The statement by the Gandhi came after the Central Bureau of Investigation took over the probe into the gang-rape and murder of the 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras village of Uttar Pradesh. On September 29th, the Dalit woman who was suffering from heinous injuries was admitted to a Delhi hospital where she claimed that she was raped in her village by four men who belonged to the upper caste.
UP Govt Alleges International Conspiracy
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has been insisting on a conspiracy to malign the government. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also alleged an “international plot”. Following this allegation, the Uttar Pradesh government has sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged criminal conspiracy to spread caste conflict, instigating violence and incidents of vicious propaganda by media and political parties. An FIR was also lodged by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Earlier, when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi tried to visit the family of the victim, they were stopped by the Uttar Pradesh police and was later arrested for violating the pandemic act.
