Karnataka To Celebrate ‘Mask Day’ This Thursday; Actors And Other Dignitaries To Be Part Of The Event

Earlier today, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa addressed the press from his home-office Krishna, regarding the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state. He said that, for returnees from Maharashtra, a 7-day hotel quarantine followed by a 7-day home quarantine would be made mandatory.

‘Mask Day’ this Thursday

BSY also informed the media that the government will be taking up a unique initiative called the ‘Mask Day’, which is all set to happen this Thursday. The major reason for the event is to create awareness among the people about the importance of wearing masks, and also maintaining social distancing from hereon.

The event will kick-start from the Ambedkar statue in front of Vidhana Soudha. As part of the event, several individuals will don masks and while following the social distancing norms, will take a walk on the premises. A few actors and celebrities will be a part of the event, as per BSY’s statement.

He also said that citizens will be fined Rs 200 for not wearing masks in public. He reiterated the importance to stay disciplined at the moment and felt that the ‘Mask Day’ could go a long way in creating awareness amongst people.

No further lockdown in the state

The CM also confirmed that there would be no further lockdown imposed in the state. Yediyurappa also said that the idea of ‘weekend lockdown’ has been dropped. Further, in the video-conference scheduled with PM Modi this week, Yediyurappa said that he would request Mr. Modi for further relaxation in the state.
