It was time to bid farewell to one of the cricketing legends Lasith Malinga as India snubbed Sri Lanka convincingly in its last group stage match of the ICC World Cup 2019. The veteran Sri Lankan cricketer announced his retirement after this last match at CWC’19.
Many players, stars from the cricketing world, friends, and colleagues posted heartwarming messages as a tribute to the Malinga. It was also a heartfelt moment for the Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for whom Malinga was the unofficial coach who honed his yorkers and helped him turn into death over specialist.
Bumarah And Malinga Have A Moment Together
Bumrah and Malinga have spent a lot of time together and it was the latter who helped the shy and young Indian medium-pacer develop into today’s Boom Boom Bumrah. Many say that they have always shared a master-prodigy relationship. Their camaraderie goes a long way back to the year 2013 when Bumrah met Malinga for the first time as he was roped in by the Mumbai Indians for IPL.
Young Bumrah got to bowl alongside one of the best bowlers in the world and it was during this time he quickly learned some precious tricks of fast-bowling from Malinga. Given the huge contribution of Malinga in the making of Bumrah into one of the best pacers in the cricketing world, it was natural for him to come out with a tribute for his guide and coach on his retirement.
What Bumrah wrote is not only endearing but also speaks of the way he has always looked upon Malinga with great honor and reverence.
An honour to play with you and an honour to play against you! LEGEND ? pic.twitter.com/SMjpeOaziV

Not only Bumrah but even cricket fans from India know the key role Malinga played in turning India’s leading bowler into what he is today. And that is why many of them thanked him for being such a big sport.
Good bye Lasith Malinga… We Indians owe you for Jasprit Bumrah ?
