Here’s How Karan Johar Responded To Swara Bhaskar’s Nepotism Question

Bollywood Producer and Director Karan Johar have been under severe scrutiny for promoting nepotism in the Bollywood Industry. The scrutiny has only been intensified post the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput.

The death of Sushant Singh Rajput has shaken the consciousness of the general public and the debate around mental health and equal opportunities has been brought back and the center of attention has been Karan Johar. Johar and his production house Dharma Productions have been known for launching new talents. More often than not, the talents turn out to be star kids. This has drawn flak for Johar especially after actress Kangana Ranaut called him out on his own show.

Actress Swara Bhaskar, who is quite vocal on social media about issues pertaining to the country, had questioned Johar about Nepotism, before Kangana. The video that dates back to 2016 was shared by the actress again. In the video, Swara asks Johar if launching star kids is a conscious choice, or is it something that just happens. Johar replied it is never conscious and told that the casting of Student of the Year just happened like that. He confessed of not knowing Alia before and said Varun was his assistant before.

Swara shared the video and wrote,

“Let’s take a moment & acknowledge that @karanjohar took this question on the chin, & answered in a candid & honest manner not taking unwarranted personal offense. Let’s also acknowledge that he didn’t have the infamous #nepotism comment removed from his chat show which he could’ve.”

‘Credit Where Due’

A fan of the actress replied to her tweet and questioned her stance on Nepotism and asked why is she supporting him and alleged that it might be because she is working with him soon. Swara replied to this in another tweet and wrote,

“I don’t have any projects in the pipeline with Karan… but it is only right and fair to give credit where due!”

Post the massive outrage against him, Karan Johar has reportedly quit the board of Mumbai Academy of Moving Images. However, the chairperson of the Board, Deepika Padukone is making her efforts to change his mind.
