Form Idli sambar chutney to Egg-rolls, Indian astronauts will have one hell of a meal in space. Indian scientist has introduced special food packets and fluid containers for astronauts taking part in India’s upcoming manned space mission, Gaganyaan.
Idli and Egg rolls for astronauts in space
Egg rolls, veg rolls, idli, moong dal halwa, and veg pulao- this isn’t the menu of any random hotel at your locality, it’s the special food created by Indian Scientist to keep the astronaut’s tummy in check while being on space.
As the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is programmed to send astronauts into space under its ‘Gaganyaan’ mission by December 2021, the Defence Food Research Laboratory in Mysore has prepared special food and liquid packages for them.
The department has also designed special containers for water and juices to help astronauts drink liquids in space along with food heaters.
The Gaganyaan mission
The man mission Gaganyaan is a crewed orbital spacecraft that is supposed to carry three astronauts into space for at least 5-7 days. ISRO chief K Sivan recently said that their four astronauts had been identified for the Gaganyaan mission and the training will begin in the third week of January in Russia.
The shuttle is likely to consist of an Orbital Module which will have a service and a crew module. The first man-mission is expected to cost ISRO around Rs 10,000 crore. The plan was initially stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 2018 Independence Day speech.
However, before sending a crew into space, ISRO plans to send two unmanned missions into the orbit – first one in 2020 and the second one in 2021.
