Actor Nikhil Kumaraswamy, the son of former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, got married to Revathi, the grandniece of M Krishnappa, in a low affair at a family farmhouse in Ramanagara. The social distancing and other precautions went for a toss.
On Thursday, Karnataka reported its highest daily increase with 36 cases being reported. While the movement on roads was being curtailed to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, 48 cars carrying around 100 people were allowed to move so that the guests could attend the Nikhil Kumaraswamy wedding. The wedding that happened at a family farmhouse in Ramanagara district was given special permission from the state government on the 22nd of March. The permission, however, was to hold a low-key wedding ceremony.
Social Distancing violated
On Thursday, the JDS leader Kumaraswamy had claimed that a medical team would be screening all the guests at the wedding. According to sources, Kumaraswamy had insisted his guests wear masks and gloves but it seems none of them followed it. In a video that has gone viral on social media, guests were seen around Nikhil which proves that the social distancing was violated.

The wedding initially was to be held in Janapadaloka in the Ramanagara district that had 5 lakh people on its guest list. There were also plans to provide food to the entire Ramanagara district. The plans were hampered with the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state. Later there were speculations of the wedding happening at Revathi’s residence in Bengaluru but since Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy wanted to host the wedding at Ramanagara district, the venue was shifted to the farmhouse.
According to the media manager of Kumaraswamy, there were 40 people from the bride’s family and 100 in total. Apart from screening the people, there was a disinfecting tunnel set up and guests were asked to pass through it.
While hundreds of weddings of common people are stalled, the leaders continue to host lavish weddings despite a major health crisis. Prior to this, the state Health Minister B Sriramulu hosted a grand wedding at the Palace grounds.
