Has the sun finally risen? Is India going to see some good news around?
ICMR states that the number of patients getting cured of COVID 19 are increasing. The country has not yet reached its break-even point yet, the mortality rate remains low, and the total number of coronavirus patients who have been cured/discharged/migrated in India reached 1,69,798 on Monday, taking the recovery rate to an all-time high of 51 percent. The total cases have reached 3,32,424 and the death toll has surged to 9,520, as per government data.
Will this be seen as a sigh of relief, as India is still successful in maintaining low mortality rates and now the affected coronavirus patients are also being discharged/cured at a great speed.
New spike
Meanwhile, fresh coronavirus cases in India witnessed an all-time high yet again. The States added over 11,000 new infections for the third straight day.
Maharashtra continued to record over 3,000 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Tamil Nadu and Delhi also saw an explosion of new cases on Sunday. At least 307 deaths from the COVID-19 infection were reported in the last 24 hours.
The cases, however, are more or less consolidated in the five cities that remained worst-affected by the coronavirus. This includes Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Thane, and Chennai. Together they account for nearly half of the national Covid-19 tally.
Last Friday, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India recorded 297,535 cases and 8,498 deaths due to Covid-19. Metropolitan cities such as Delhi and Mumbai continue to be worst-hit from the pandemic, being at a current count of 34,687 and 97,648 confirmed cases respectively and looking at these numbers, lack of health infrastructure creates more problems for patients, both at the initial and serious stages who are looking out for a much-needed cure.
