Coronavirus Cases In India Crosses 10 Lakh Mark, Continues To Be Third Worst Affected Country

On Friday, India surpassed over 10 lakh COVID-19 cases in the country. It is the third country in the world to have over a million infections with the United States and Brazil.

India has a total of 10,05,849 confirmed cases of COVID-19 according to the website COVID19India. Over 6,36,727 people have successfully recovered from the novel coronavirus disease. Close to 3,43,110 cases are still active. The death toll has risen to 25,622.

On Thursday, India witnessed the highest spike of 32,696 fresh cases and with 20,000 recoveries. The highest number of cases in India are coming from the states of Karnataka, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. These states have shown a steep rise in the last few months. Last month they were reporting over 400 cases per day while now they report over 1,000 cases per day.

Second Highest Tests Conducted

Across the world, apart from the United States, India has conducted the highest number of tests with a record 12 million tests. The United States has conducted 42 million tests so far.

This was confirmed by the White House, there have been over 3.5 million infections in the United States of COVID-19. The United States has seen 138,000 deaths due to COVID-19. Around the world, there are 13.6 million people with coronavirus infections and 586,000 people have died. The White House said,

“With regard to the coronavirus testing, we’ve done more than 42 million tests. The second-highest number is 12 million from India. We’re leading the world in testing.”

The White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany was responding to the questions related to the coronavirus pandemic in the United States and said,

“We have done more than any country in the world on testing; there’s no doubt that – 42 million tests. The country with the next highest number in India at 12 million.”
