With just 5 days to go for New Year 2020, people are gearing up to have a blast celebrating the night. All party halls and pubs will be jam-packed, offering boose time and a DJ night madness. However, Byg Brewski, a popular pub off Sarjapur Road seemed to be unlucky as before the new year party kicks off the popular place is now forcibly closed. It has been sealed late on Tuesday night after residents in the area complained of loud music and illegal parking among other issues.
A popular bar shut down
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities have shut down the pub after frequent complaints received from Bellandur residents. The resident group alleged that these establishments were violating measures like playing loud music at night. The residents also claimed vehicles were illegally parked by customers of the establishments.
“They don’t provide any parking to customers, who then park their cars and bikes on either side of the road, shrinking the carriageway. The road is itself quite narrow,” a resident said. Furthermore, the residents had listed down 21 establishments in the area in a letter to the BBMP Joint Commissioner.
Violation of zonal regulations
Speaking on the event Dr. Vijendra, Chief Health Officer, BBMP, said, “The brewpub was established on a narrow 30 feet road and therefore it was a clear violation of zonal regulations. A commercial establishment cannot be built on a road of width lesser than 40 feet.”
“The establishment didn’t offer to park to customers. When BBMP officials visited on Tuesday, they found that the basement, which should have been kept for parking, was filled by eateries,” he added.
The MLA accompanies
BJP MLA Arvind Limbavali accompanied the BBMP team to supervise the closing of the pub. He is the MLA of the Mahadevapura constituency in which Byg Brewski is located. “I had received many complaints on The Byg Brewsky pub which was causing problems for residents on Sarjapur Road is closed today. I held a meeting with concerned authorities yesterday and advised them to take action,” Arvind Limbavali tweeted.
Not just Byg Brewski, the shud down was also carried in four different pubs in Indiranagar over similar issues. “We have begun cracking down on such places, Fifteen days ago, some of them were sealed,” the BBMP official said.
