Baradwaj Rangan review
Brahmastra featuring Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor and among others, has been the most awaited film for a while now. The movie is now in theatres, and there’s a lot of talk about how well the film performs at the box office. Though the movie has received mixed reviews, there are all kinds of people saying all kinds of things. Popular film critic Baradwaj Rangan has reviewed Ayan Mukerji’s film.
“All fantasy films are derivative and Brahmastra is no different. From Star Wars to Matrix every film has a mentor precise over a group of people with a diverse set of superpowers. It’s like how they took bits and pieces from other fantasy universes and did their own thing. In other words, it’s like how you are building your own universe. And Brahmastra never manages to do that.”
“The modern-day touches keep the film at arm’s length. Let’s say Star Wars, we enter a whole new world here. The costumes are different, the landscape is different, and the way people fight is different. Here, in Brahmastra, there is a mix of Swadesh, Dil tho Pagal Hai, and Mr. India. We never really are in the ‘Astraverse’. There is such an overkill of these special effects that when it is really time for the fireworks in the climax the scenes feel like we have seen it all before.”
