According to a report released by Bangalore Mirror, the young people in the city are also catching the virus within no time. Of all COVID-19 patients in the city, 32% are between 20-29 yrs old, said the report.
Young Corona targets in Bengaluru
Approximately 32% of the COVID-19 patients are between the age of 20 and 29 years, and the age-wise distribution of data shows, scattering the wrong notion that the young are safe.
It is reported that a majority of the positive cases were recorded in East and South Bengaluru, which claims of the city’s elegant residential areas and high-rise buildings.
The age-wise and area-wise data was collected from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which is organizing information from the Health Department on the number of positive cases, besides keeping a track on all the 14,910 people who returned to Bengaluru from abroad between March 8 and 23.
Amongst the 50 positive cases as on Saturday, 16 are youngsters and nine are senior citizens. As many as 21 positive cases are in the 30-59 year age group. Among the patients, 30 are men and 20, women. The data does not count the nine, who have recovered.
East Bengaluru reported 18 COVID-19 positive cases, which is the highest among BBMP zones. The zone comprises the central parts of Bengaluru including Shantala Nagara, Shantinagar, and CV Raman Nagar and residential areas including Hebbal, Sanjay Nagar, Nagawara.
Cases in Karnataka
While 11 positive cases were found in South Bengaluru such as Basavanagudi, Jaynagar, Padmanabhanagar, eight were reported in the Mahadevapura zone, where a large number of software professionals reside. The least number of cases were reported in Yelahanka and RR Nagar with just one case each.
Most patients reported in Bengaluru are being treated in hospitals such as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases, KG General Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital, Manipal Hospital, Mallige Medical Hospital, and others.
A day after Karnataka witnessed its highest single-day jump in coronavirus cases, two more positive cases were reported on Sunday morning. The total number of cases in the state now stands at 146.
The state, to date, has reported four coronavirus-related deaths and 11 patients have recovered and been discharged so far. 198 samples of attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat event from Bengaluru have meanwhile tested negative.
