Ponniyin Selvan 2, Mani Ratnam’s period drama, debuted in theatres to great acclaim. The second installment of the epic two-part historical saga is doing well at the box office. Given the film’s popularity and stellar cast, everything contributed to the film’s box office success.

Actors Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, and Vikram Prabhu repeat their roles in the second installment of the historical drama that chronicles the narrative of the Chola Dynasty.
The film crosses 150 crores
According to Sacnilk, after earning around Rs 50 crore in the first two days at the ticket counter, the movie is said to have made Rs 30 crore on the third day, taking its total to over Rs 80 crore domestically.
On Sunday, the film had 63.25 percent Tamil occupancy and nearly 20 percent Hindi occupancy, which contributed to its impressive total gross. Ponniyin Selvan 2 had already grossed over Rs 100 crore globally as makers shared a note for its fans, thanking them for their support and love.

However, some experts also claim that PS2 has crossed the Rs 150 crore mark. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted: “Ponniyin Selvan 2 has crossed Rs 150 crore gross at the worldwide box office in 3 days… (sic)”. The film also had a great opening in North America as it made over $3 million or around Rs 24 crore in just three days, according to production house Lyca Productions.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the sequel to Ponniyin Selvan, which was released last year and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2022. Mani Ratnam directed the first installment as well, adapting the scripts from Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name. Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the final installment in the franchise, and it stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Vikram, among others.
