‘I Never Approached Telugu Stars’, Says Prashanth Neel

Salaar’s director Prashanth Neel was asked tough questions in an interview regarding choosing Telugu actors ahead of Kannada actors. And here is what he has to say.

Choosing Telugu stars over Kannada actors

Glorified with pan-India films- KGF Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, Kannada director Prashanth Neel is one of the most sought-after directors in India. Currently, the 42-year-old is working on a high-voltage gangster drama, Salaar. Starring Prabhas in the lead role, the film’s shooting is underway at a fast pace.

The latest we hear is that Prashanth Neel is keen on wrapping up the entire shooting part for Salaar by this year’s end. For his next, Neel will be joining forces with RRR star NTR for an actioner. If everything goes as planned, the film will go on the floors in mid-2023. Also, the KGF director has yet another project in combination with Ram Charan at the discussion stage.

In a recent interview, when Prashanth Neel was asked why he is after Telugu heroes post KGF success, the director revealed that he never approached Tollywood heroes for films. Instead, he has been getting calls from Telugu filmmakers to make pan-India films with Tollywood stars. Prashanth also clarified that after wrapping up the committed projects with Telugu stars, he will surely focus on making films with Kannada heroes.

Adipurush Spoils Party

Meanwhile, the postponement of Adipurush to 16 June 2023 has come as a jolt to Prashanth Neel. There are also chances that Adipurush will be pushed further because the release date announcement has met with extremely negative reactions from the trade and fans.

On the other hand, Salaar was supposed to release on September 28, 2023, but now due to the postponement of Adipurush, that film also might be pushed forward.

The trade that includes buyers, distributors, and exhibitors will not be in a position to release two mega-budget Prabhas films within a gap of 2-3 months. So the postponement of Salaar looks unavoidable.

Neel was putting all his efforts to wrap up the film in the next few months and he wanted to move on to his next project with NTR pre-production work after its release in September. But now with Adipurush releasing in June, he will get stuck with Salaar for the next several months. This will make all his career plans go erratic. Sadly, there is also no clarity from Neel or producers on whether Salaar is a single-part film or two parts.
