On July 3rd, 2021, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao announced the news of their divorce. Aamir is a popular actor, and his decision to go ahead with a divorce shocked his fans and admirers. Not stopping there, the matter percolated to Twitter, and soon, the situation started becoming toxic.
Aamir and Kiran end their 15 years of marriage
In a joint statement that was issued, Aamir and Kiran stated that they had been planning for separation for a while now, and they had recently reached a situation where they are comfortable enough to make formal arrangements for the same. The duo also announced that they would co-parent their son Azad and would raise him together.
Having met on the sets of Lagaan, a film in which Aamir Khan was the lead actor and Kiran was an Assistant Director, the duo married in 2005. Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he had filed a divorce in 2002.
Fatima Sana Shaikh started trending on Twitter
Soon after the news of Aamir and Kiran’s divorce came out, Twitterati started bringing Aamir’s Dangal co-star Fatima Sana Shaikh into the picture. A few years ago, there were rumours that Fatima and Aamir were a couple. Hence, some users pointed that this relationship could have been the main reason behind Aamir and Kiran’s divorce.
RGV defends Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao
Ram Gopal Varma, who is known for the unorthodox expression of thoughts, came to the defence of Aamir and Kiran. He slammed the trolls which were targeting the couple. The filmmaker said that if the couple had no issues in separating, no one else needs to have a say in the topic. RGV and Aamir had together worked on the hit Bollywood film Rangeela in the 1990s.
