Congress Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, a famous figure in the nation, made a tweet praising Kerala batsman Sanju Samson for his wonderful match-winning knock against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday. Rajasthan Royals eventually won the thriller of a game by 4 wickets and Samson along with Rahul Tewatia were heaped with praises. However, Gautam Gambhir didn’t quite like Tharoor drawing parallels between Sanju Samson and former India captain MS Dhoni.
It’s fair to say that Steve Smith’s Rajasthan Royals were a part of the best IPL 2020 game, so far, that was played against Kings XI Punjab. Rajasthan had opted to field first after winning the toss and it might have been a huge risk as only MS Dhoni’s CSK were the only team before yesterday’s game who had won an IPL 2020 match while chasing.
However, the Royals stunned one and all as they managed to win the game by 4 wickets in the end after Rahul Tewatia hit 5 sixes off one Sheldon Cottrell over. But what fuelled RR’s chase of 224 against Punjab, in the beginning, was Sanju Samson’s 42-ball 85. Once again, the Kerala batsman surprised everyone with his stunning batting performance and Twitterati couldn’t hold back its praises. Everyone starting from West Indies giant Ian Bishop to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar have been in awe of Sanju Samson.
One of the awestruck famous people on Twitter was Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, a headline maker across topics, as he called Sanju Samson as the next MS Dhoni. However, he received a lot of backlash on his post as people corrected his statement and asked him to not draw parallels with anyone or MS Dhoni as he is going to be ‘the’ Sanju Samson in Indian cricket, someone everyone shall remember for his own characteristic performances.
