Indian National Congress leader Salman Nizami who is known to be controversial has come out and made another statement that has stirred another controversy.
Salman Nizami had once referred Afzal Guru as martyr which had then become a hot topic. Afzal Guru was a militant who was arrested in relation to the parliament attack and was later given the death penalty. Now, Salman Nizami has come out and called August 5th as a black day for Jammu and Kashmir.
On August 5th, 2019, the Narendra Modi led government had scrapped the special status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Article 370 and 35A. The state of Jammu and Kashmir was also divided into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
In a tweet, Salman Nizami has posted an image that has the text which says that the 5th of August is the black day for Jammu and Kashmir. He also demanded that Article 370 should be brought back and also the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir should be restored as quickly as possible.
During the Afzal Guru episode, he had tweeted,
“Tum Kitnay Afzal maro gay, har ghar say Afzal niklay ga (How many Afzals will you kill, each home will have one Afzal)”
Another Congress Leader Calls For Bringing Back Article 370
The chief of Congress of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Ahmed Mir slammed the revocation of the article as the worst ever decision and went onto demand statehood for Jammu and Kashmir restored. Speaking to the new Indian express said that the party would fight for the restoration of the statehood along with the constitutional guarantees. When asked about what constitutional guarantees he referred to,
“Jammu and Kashmir had got special status and that should be restored. We want it back. Jammu and Kashmir parties should be consulted and taken into confidence on what kind of constitutional guarantees should be provided to Jammu and Kashmir. But unfortunately, the government of India has not taken any call in this regard so far.”
