‘I Am Not Donald Trump’, Says Uddhav Thackeray On Handling Of The Pandemic

In an interview with Shiv Sena’s Saamna with the spokesperson of the party Sanjay Raut, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that ‘He is No Donald Trump’ when it comes to handling the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The full interview is due to release over the weekend. However, the teaser that has been released has Uddhav Thackeray said that he is no Donald Trump. The United States President has been facing a lot of heat in the country and across the world for his handling of the pandemic, especially for his negligence in imposing stricter restrictions. Uddhav Thackeray, on the other hand, has always been wary of easing down the restrictions.

Even though the entire context is not known, the statement by Uddhav Thackeray refers to a leader of the state who downplay the pandemic. This was his response when Sanjay Raut asked when Vada Pav will be back on the streets of Mumbai.

In the teaser, Uddhav Thackeray also warns people that even though the relaxations have been given, a lockdown is still in place. He said,

“The lockdown is still in place. We are giving relaxations and opening up one by one.”

India Reports Highest Recoveries

On Tuesday, India recorded the highest daily recoveries of 28,472 in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of recoveries has reached to 7,53,049.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country is close to reaching 12 lakhs. The current toll is at 11,95,652 with 37,000 cases reported in the last 24 hours. This is good news for the government which is trying to stop the spread. The recoveries should cross the number of confirmed cases in order for the pandemic to steep down.

The state of Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with over 3 lakh cases. With 3,27,031 cases, Maharashtra has 1,32,236 active cases and 1,82,217 recoveries. The death toll in the state is at 12,276.
