Bengaluru: BBMP Gets A New Commissioner But Twitterati is Not Happy With the Move

The Karnataka State Government has replaced BH Anil Kumar with N Manjunath Prasad as the Commissioner of BBMP. In its official order, the government communicated the decision to the media.

Lockdown row the reason for transfer?

Although BH Anil Kumar had previously been praised for his work at the helm of Bengaluru’s civic-body, ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Anil was not popular amongst the political bigwigs. The matter seemed to have taken an obvious turn when BH Anil Kumar told in the media that extending the lockdown to 15 days could help break the cycle. This is despite the government’s stance that lockdown was not the solution for curbing the outbreak of the virus.

Twitteratti not amused with the move

Users on Twitter complained that the move was unnecessary considering the fragile state that the city is in. Moreover, a few were unhappy with the reappointment of Mr. Manjunath Prasad, from whom BH Anil Kumar had taken the responsibility of BBMP. There are also rumors that none of the MLA’s in the assembly supported Anil Kumar, and this might have led to the ousting of the IAS officer.
