On Saturday, Congress launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister. Congress said that the latest slogan of Prime Minister is to not give any accounts of the PM CARES fund.
During the Public Accounts Committee which was headed by the Member of Parliament from Congress Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the MPs of BJP made sure no discussion could be held on the PM CARES fund. Post this, the chief spokesperson of Congress party Randeep Singh Surjewala accused the Prime Minister is deliberately trying to assert that he is not answerable to any questions. He wrote on Twitter,
“PM CARES Fund can’t be questioned by PAC, can’t be audited by CAG, can’t be answered in RTI, Can’t be challenged in court, but can receive Chinese Money! This is Modi Ji ‘New India’”
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has been on the receiving end of the blame as to the issue of PM CARES but he says that he should not be blamed. As per Chowdhury, it was not him who raised the issue of the PM CARES fund in the meeting. He said that it was the senior BJP leader Jagdamba Pal who suddenly made a reference to the audit of the fund which stunned other leaders of the BJP leader. Rajya Sabha MP Bhupender Yadav intervened Pal and cited the rules in order to stall the discussion of COVID-19.
Pal said that the PAC act can only apply to the CAG reports and few other BJP MPs joined him in asserting that the PM CARES Fund cannot be audited. Chowdhury said,
“It seems there is a fear in the mind of the BJP leaders that any discussion on COVID outbreak means a discussion about PM CARES also.”
