Sarla Devi, the mother of Kanpur gangster Vikas Dubey has said that she wants the cops to kill her son if they catch him. “He should surrender himself before the police. If he continues to remain at large, police may kill him in the encounter. I say kill him even if you (police) manage to catch him because what he has done is very wrong,” Devi said.

By killing innocent policemen, he has done a very bad thing. I saw the news of the encounter on TV. I want him should come out and surrender to police for his betterment, otherwise, police will find him anyway. I am saying nab him and then do encounter. He must be punished,” she said further.

The mother also said that Dubey is causing embarrassment to the family. “I have not met him in 4 months. I am living with my younger son here in Lucknow. We are facing problems because of him. We are embarrassed because of him,” she said.

This comes as there is a massive manhunt in Uttar Pradesh for Dubey. Mohit Agarwal, IG Kanpur has announced that Rs 50,000 cash will be given to the person who will give any information regarding the whereabouts of Dubey, whom the family in his village of Dikru under the Chaubeypur police station says has not been home for days before the encounter.

Dubey has over 60 cases against him, including a murder charge for the killing of Santosh Shukla, a former UP minister in the Rajnath Singh government, inside a police station in 2001. The police team was on their way to arrest him in connection with another murder case on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday when they came under heavy gunfire from Dubey’s men who had taken positions on rooftops. Total of eight police personnel including Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Mishra lost their lives.

Dubey is said to be ‘well connected’ cutting across political parties. Ever since the news of the encounter came out several images of him have started circulating online. One of them showed him standing with Uttar Pradesh law minister Brijesh Pathak.

In another which is of a poster asking for votes for his wife Richa Dubey for the district panchayat elections, Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son and former CM Akhilesh Yadav are seen. Dubey himself is said to have contested polls on a BSP ticket.
