Security has been increased in and around the Taj Hotel Mumbai after it received a threat call from a number in Karachi. The call came in last night.
As per the officials, the hotel received a call on the night of 29th June and the caller identified himself as a member of the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. The caller has reportedly threatened to blow up the hotel. The call which was received at around 12.30 is has been traced back to Karachi, Pakistan.
The Mumbai Police swung into action immediately and tightened security at the hotel, at the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus and the Taj Lands End, Bandra. Incidentally, the call was made on the day when the Pakistan Stock Exchange Building in Karachi was attacked by four gunmen who killed four security personnel. Before they could take over the building, the four gunmen were shot dead.
The Attacks Of 26/11
The Taj Hotel in Mumbai was one of the spots which were attacked in 2008 as a part of the Mumbai terrorist attack by Pakistani terrorists who came through waters. In a series of terrorist attacks that took place on the night of November 26th, 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombings that lasted for four days in the financial capital of India.
The attacks saw the killing of at least 174 people and left 300 wounded. 9 of the 10 terrorists were also killed in the encounter by the Mumbai Police and the Anti-Terror Squad. The lone survivor among them, Ajmal Kasab was taken into custody.
Of the 12 attacks, eight took place in South Mumbai at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai Chabad House, The Oberoi Trident, The Taj Palace & Tower, Leopold Café, Cama Hospital, The Nariman House, The Metro Cinema and the lane behind the office of Times of India.
Even as Pakistan condemned the attacks, the Indian government accused the neighboring country to be involved to be in the attacks after Kasab revealed that the attackers were controlled from Pakistan. It was only later that Pakistan accepted that Kasab was a Pakistani citizen. In 2018, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif suggested that Pakistan government played a role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
