The national capital has been witnessing a spike in coronavirus cases on a daily basis and therefore there’s a huge demand for hospital beds.
To meet the increasing demand and accommodate the anticipated number of new coronavirus cases, the Delhi government has started converting the Radha Soami Spiritual Centre in South Delhi into the world’s largest temporary COVID-19 care facility with 10,000 beds. Slated To Open On July 1
Radha Soami Satsang Beas center in Delhi’s Chattarpur has been converted into a 10,000-bed COVID-19 care center, which will have all the facilities for coronavirus patients.
Recyclable Beds
South Delhi District Magistrate BM Mishra said that 10 percent of the beds will have oxygen facility and added that the beds are made of cardboard.
10 Times Larger Than China’s
While announcing the inauguration of the COVID center, a senior Home Ministry official said,
“This would be 10 times bigger than the field facility for COVID patients that was temporarily set up in China’s Leishenshan to accommodate 1,000 patients.”
ITBP Takes Charge Of A COVID-19 Care Centre
ITBP on Wednesday took charge as the nodal agency to operate the COVID-19 care facility for the smooth functioning of the facility at Radha Soami Satsang Beas in the Chhattarpur area of the national capital.
Largest COVID-19 Care Centre In The Country
The ITBP said,
“It is expected that a 2,000-bed facility will be operational at the center from June 26, 2020. The total bed capacity may go up to 10,200. This will be the largest single COVID-19 care center in the national capital and the country.”

18,000 Tons Of Air-Conditioners
The District Magistrate BM Mishra said that the entire facility will be air-conditioned by 18,000 tons of air-conditioners and meals will be provided by Radha Soami Centre.
50 Acres For Toilets
Vikas Sethi, secretary of the spiritual center in the national capital, told ANI,
“It will have 500 urinals, 450 bathrooms, and 300 wheel-chairs. There are two buildings for storage, medicine, PPE kits, and other belongings. The total area of the facility is 29 acres and approximately a total of 50 acres for toilets, bathrooms, and parking will be given.”
Plans To Screen Every House In Delhi By July 6
In order to curb the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the national capital, the state government has revised its COVID plan and decided to screen every house by July 6.
Delhi COVID Response Plan
As part of the government’s ‘Delhi COVID Response Plan’ to control the spread of coronavirus, all containment zones will be reviewed, redesigned by June 26 and the screening of every house in these zones will be done by June 30.
15,000 Beds Will Be Required In Delhi By June 30
Delhi government estimates that a total number of 15,000 beds will be required in the national capital by June 30, as per the rising trend of the number of cases.
