Internet-search company Google is facing a lawsuit of $5 billion for reportedly invading the privacy of users. The company has been accused of tracking the internet use of users through their browsers set in a “private” or “incognito” mode.
Lawsuit worth $5 Billion
The lawsuit which has been filed in this regard is worth $5 billion. As per the lawsuit, Google has been involved in collecting information about what people view online and where they browse, despite the users switching on their “Incognito” mode.
Going into the details, the complainant said that Google gathers data through Google Analytics, Google Ad Manager, and other applications and website plug-ins, including smartphone apps, regardless of whether users click on Google-supported ads. This is useful to Google, which learns about users’ friends, favorite foods, habits, and even the things they search for online.
The complainant further stated: “Google cannot continue to engage in the covert and unauthorized data collection from virtually every American with a computer or phone.” It has also been claimed that millions of users who have used the “Private Mode” from June 1st,2016 could have been victims of unauthorized tracking.
Google responds
Google has responded to the accusation. Jose Castaneda, a Google spokesperson, said that the company will defend the claims. He further added: “As we clearly state each time you open a new Incognito tab, websites might be able to collect information about your browsing activity.”
Although users view private browsing safe, it has long been discussed whether the “mode” is actually away from the lingering eyes.
